Atari Games List

Atari Games List
Hi guys, the Atari 2600 was my introduction to the world of video games as a kid, and I still have very fond memories of the console to this day. Its really amazing to see just how many people love this console as much as I did (and still do) but perhaps what is even cooler, is just how many newer gamers are getting into retro stuff. I wanted to give a list of some great Atari 2600 games, I can promise you that these are actually games that I have played and enjoy, not just default games that every single games list has.
Smurf Rescue In Gargamels Castle
1982
Smurf Rescue In Gargamels Castle
Whenever I think of Atari 2600, this is 99/100 the game that will spring into my mind. I loved this game as a kid, and still do to this day. It is a platform game and by Atari 2600 standards it looks fantastic. I think one of the things that I loved so much about this game, was that it actually had a beginning to a end and you did not just play for a high score. You had to walk your little Smurf through the screens avoiding obstacles to save Smurfette. Great graphics, awesome sound and fun game play really make this a must own in my book. Its safe to say when I sat down to write this Atari games list, that this was the first game that I knew would be included.
The Empire Strikes Back
1982
The Empire Strikes Back
As a kid of the 1980’s I was obsessed with Star Wars, and this gem of a game certainly did not disappoint. In truth it actually is very simple, but it is a very addictive little shooter. You play as Luke Skywalker, and controlling his snow speeder you must take down those AT-AT’s. It is a very fun game that can get very challenging. It may not have a whole lot of depth to it, but above all else this is a great deal of fun, and in my opinion the first really good Star Wars game you could play at home.
Jungle Hunt
1982
Jungle Hunt
I really loved games like this as a kid, because I liked to think that I had beaten a game. Do not get me wrong I like getting high scores, but Jungle Hunt felt like a Indiana Jones style adventure. This is a action game that has different levels. What is cool about this is the levels are all different in terms of game play. It looks good and has funky music that will stay in your head for days.
Space Invaders
1980
Space Invaders

I know this may seem a obvious choice, but its a classic for a reason. Even the most novice gamer knows what space invaders is. What I used to love about it, was imagining in my head that I was in this huge intergalactic war and only I could stop the Space Invaders. This is a really good home version of the arcade classic. I really did not want to do just a generic Atari games list, but I really could not leave this game out.
Pitfall
1982
Pitfall
Many have emulated this platform classic over the years, and it kind of in a way is the grand father to many modern platform games. Pitfall is a great game that still holds up well today, for a 2600 game it is pretty straight forward in what you have to do to beat the game. Many games of this era were so basic you would often wonder what they hell you were supposed to do. Not with Pitfall it had a actual goal that you had to accomplish.
